Gus Brown Continues Nationwide Teaching via ZOOM
Augustus F. Brown, principal of Brown, Brown & Young, PA, in Bel Air and Elkton, Maryland, and a faculty member of the Keenan Trial Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, held a two-day seminar in March for ten attorneys from Arizona, Missouri, Maryland and North Carolina, teaching them "Witness Preparation for Trial."
"Educational institutions are slowly returning to normal as the COVID-19 pandemic wanes, but the experience of remote teaching using ZOOM has become standard in the legal profession," says Brown. "It is intense and thorough!"
Brown's students, all experienced trial lawyers in their various jurisdictions, came to him for instruction in the latest concepts of how to prepare clients for depositions. "I teach them how to achieve client self-awareness," Brown says. "This is a process that leads their client to understand and appreciate the central facts of their case," he adds. "I make the lawyers play various roles for each other, create obstacles, and learn how to overcome them. It's rewarding for everyone!" Brown concludes.
The seminar, held on March 22-23, 2021, was "zoomed" from Brown's office in Bel Air, Maryland, under the auspices of Keenan Trial Institute.
"Teaching via remote video is very interesting," says Brown. "The interaction can be a little stilted, but it has advantages, too — you don't have the expenses of travel or staying in a hotel!"
Brown believes that all the participating attorneys found these sessions valuable. "It is eye-opening to see a different point of view than you might expect, as attorneys take on the roles and personalities of clients or witnesses. You learn a lot, and quickly!" he states.
Augustus F. "Gus" Brown practices in Federal and State Courts in the fields of Personal Injury, Auto Injury, Defective Products, Highway Construction Crashes and Workers' Compensation Claims. Augustus Brown is certified by the Courts to conduct mediation of Personal Injury Claims, Medical Malpractice Claims and Litigation Claims, and serves as a privately chosen arbitrator and mediator in these types of cases.
Mr. Brown frequently facilitates jury focus groups for other trial attorneys on medical malpractice, negligence and auto liability case issues. He teaches other attorneys trial practice techniques, how to negotiate insurance settlements, and other relevant parts of the Personal Injury legal area. He trains other attorneys in jury selection, witness preparation and crafting legal arguments — topics in which he is an acknowledged expert.
In May, 2020, he was honored as FACULTY OF THE YEAR for 2019 by the Keenan Trial Institute.
